The LOINC table includes fields for the LOINC codes and each of the six parts of the fully-specified name. There are many other fields (described in the Users' Guide) that contain synonyms, comments, and other information. The LOINC table is available in several file formats.

The LOINC distribution also includes several LOINC Accessory Files and other documentation.

A zip file archive that contains the LOINC table in tab-delimited text format with each record on a separate line (terminated by CR/LF) and each field delimited by a tab character. Non-null text fields are enclosed in double quotes.

LOINC Table File - CSV Text Format (4.9 MB)

A zip file archive that contains: 1) The LOINC table in CSV text format with each record on a separate line (terminated by CR/LF) and each field delimited by a comma character. Non-null text fields are enclosed in double quotes. 2) Directories with the scripts and files needed for basic import into Oracle and MySQL databases. 3) Other files, including the LOINC License, LOINC Release Notes, MapTo table, and Source Organization table. NOTE: This is a new distribution format as of LOINC version 2.42. It is targeted to become the sole text format distribution as of the December 2013 release.

LOINC Table Changes File (3.4 MB)

Contains all records that have been edited since the last release, including changes in many ancillary attributes such as RELATEDNAMES2, SHORTNAME, and COMMENT fields. We make lots of changes to such fields so most of these changes do not represent any kind of change to the LOINC term definition. This file is in a Microsoft Access™ database format, compressed as a zip file.

LOINC Table Changes Report File (2.0 MB)

A report that highlights all the changes to the primary LOINC name fields since the last release. LOINC follows good terminology management practices, so these changes reflect modifications to our naming convention rules, style, and efforts for consistency rather that changes to the concept meaning.

LOINC Panels and Forms File (4.7 MB)

An export of a key subset of the Panels and Forms represented in LOINC. The entire package of this key subset is currently available, in addition to separate packages for Laboratory panels, Clinical panels, Consumer Health panels, HEDIS panels, the HL7 Clinical Genetics panels, Newborn Screening panels, PhenX panels, US Government panels (including the CMS survey instruments MDSv2, MDSv3, OASIS, and CARE), and Other Survey Instruments. The hierarchical structure is represented in the file by the PARENT_ID, ID and SEQUENCE fields. The root, or top level, records in the file are those records where the PARENT_ID = ID. The records are in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet (compressed as a zip file) with separate worksheets (tabs) for the form structure, loinc code details, and answer lists.

LOINC Multiaxial Hierarchy File (1.0 MB)

An export of the LOINC Multi-axial hierarchy in a computable format. The records in this file represent nodes of the hierarchy, whether LOINC Parts or full LOINC codes. The ordered sequence at any level of the hierarchy is given by the SEQUENCE field. Top level nodes in the hierarchy are those where PATH_TO_ROOT is null. This file is a "Comma Separated Value" text (compressed as a zip file), which can be read by Microsoft Excel and is also suitable for import into most common database platforms. If you open the file in Excel, be aware that there is problem with how Excel automatically formats the "CODE" column by turning strings into dates. See http://bit.ly/io5Pv for more information.

The LOINC® Users' Guide is the definitive document about LOINC®. It explains the structure of the table, its rationale, and the rules LOINC® uses for naming test results.
