HHS announces first set of uniform standards for the electronic health information exchange

On March 21, 2003 announced the first set of uniform standards for the electronic exchange of clinical health information to be adopted across the federal government.

The LOINC committee and the Regenstrief Institute are pleased to inform you that the United States Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS), Defense (DoD) and Veterans Affairs (VA) on March 21, 2003 announced the first set of uniform standards for the electronic exchange of clinical health information to be adopted across the federal government. As part of this, all federal agencies that deal with health care data will adopt laboratory Logical Observation Identifier Name Codes (LOINC) to standardize the electronic exchange of clinical laboratory results.
