Interpretation of the total score:
Score 0 = no pain.
Score 1-3 = mild pain
Score 4-5 = moderate pain
Score 6-7 = severe pain
Limitation: A falsely low score may be seen in an infant who is too premature, ill to respond, or who is vented and receiving a paralyzing agent.
