92144-5Moraxella catarrhalis DNA [Presence] in Respiratory specimen by NAA with probe detectionActive
Part Description
LP185678-2 Moraxella catarrhalis
Moraxella (Branhamella) catarrhalis, previously known as Neisseria catarrhalis or Micrococcus catarrhalis, is a gram-negative, aerobic diplococcus frequently found in the respiratory tract. M. catarrhalis may cause a variety of illnesses, ranging from sinusitis, otitis media, lower respiratory tract infections, in adultsconjunctivitis and keratitis in children, to laryngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia and lower respiratory tract infections, particularly in those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). A combination of serological and conventional microbiological studies is used to confirm infection by M. catarrhalis. Up to 75% of children carry M. catarrhalis, while carriage rates in adults is extremely low (1-3%). [PMID:11781271]
