Term Description

The FIB-4 index is a simple noninvasive approach using selected laboratory measures (AST, ALT, platelet count) in combination with patient age to assess if an individual is at higher risk for advanced liver fibrosis (F3-F4). It is an accepted tool to identify the probability of advanced fibrosis in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The results should be interpreted in an individual patient in the context of specific clinical characteristics.
