Candida albicans DNA
Active
Description
Candida albicans is a diploid yeast of the genus Candida. Systemic fungal infections, including those by C. albicans, have emerged as important causes of morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients (e.g., HIV, cancer chemotherapy, organ or bone marrow transplantation). C. albicans represents nearly half of clinical isolates of the Candida genus, and hospital-acquired infections by this organism have become a major health concern. The genome of C. albicans is highly dynamic due to frequent karyotypic alterations, which cause changes in its phenotype and successful adaptation.
