LP14322-9   Staphylococcus aureus enterotoxin B
Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is associated with strains of Staphylococcus aureus that produce TSS toxin-1 (TSST-1) and/or staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB) (or Staph enterotoxin C). TSST-1 is associated with approximately 65% of TSS cases- (most of the menstruation associated cases), whereas SEB is associated with approximately 20% of cases. Individuals lacking antibodies to TSST-1 or to SEB (approximately 10% and 20% of adults, respectively) are presumed to be at highest risk of TSS. (Information is from Focus Diagnostics). LP14322-9   Staphylococcus aureus enterotoxin B
Patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) are frequently colonized with Staphylococcus aureus (S.a) strains that secret exotoxins such as Staphylococcus enterotoxins A, B, C , D, E and Toxic shock syndrome toxin (SEA, SEB, SEC, SED, SEE and TSST), where SEA and SEB seem to be the most important ones involved in the IgE synthesis.
