Description

LP199601-8   Naltrexol
Naltrexol has two forms: 6-beta naltrexol and 6-alpha naltrexol. 6-Beta naltrexol (6β-Naltrexol) is the major urinary metabolite of Naltrexone in man and has a significant pharmacological activity and a longer elimination half-life than the parent drug. [PMID:9248940] Naltrexone is an opioid antagonist used primarily in the management of alcohol dependence and opioid dependence. Relative to naltrexone, 6β-naltrexol has about half the affinity for the μ-opioid receptor, but is present at approximately 10-30-fold higher concentrations at steady state due to extensive first-pass metabolism of the parent drug.
