Smith extractable nuclear B Ab
Active
Description
Smith extractable nuclear B antibody binds to the B protein, which is one of the seven proteins that constitute the core of small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) particles and include U1, U2, U4, and U5. Smith antibodies (anti-Sm) are present in 5-30% of patient who are positive for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Anti-Sm is highly specific for SLE and their presence is part of the serological protocol for the diagnosis of SLE. In addition to its importance in the diagnosis of SLE, anti-Sm are also associated with how active and severe any renal involvement may be. PMID: 15804705 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
