Gene Targets for Microorganisms
LOINC has received lots of new code requests for tests that detect bacteria, viruses and other pathogens based on a genetic target. It may be important to distinguish the specific analyte in order to interpret the result in a meaningful way and guide further testing.

PCR-based Methods
This group will be discussing PCR-based methods and whether to keep the ones currently being used in LOINC (probe.amp.tar, non-probe.amp.tar, probe.amp.sig etc.) or whether a new approach, such as a more general “Nucleic acid amplification," should be considered.

Systems for Genetic Testing
This workgroup will be discussing systems for genetic testing and what distinctions are important for different use cases, e.g., germline versus somatic. In some cases, it may be sufficient to have a generic System such as “DNA” (or “^Patient”), but in other cases, the specific specimen (e.g. breast tumor, bone marrow) is important.
