We’ve reached agreement that Long Term Care Facility is a useful concept for Setting in the Doc Ontology. Potential uses of this concept have sprung up in a few contexts, and we’d like to reach agreement on an operational definition.

One idea would be to use the CMS-delineated post acute care settings: Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs), home health (HHA), Long-Term Care Hospitals (LTCHs) and Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities (IRFs). These could then all be defined as sub-nodes in the ontology.

However, I don’t know that most people would include home health (e.g. patient’s home) as a long term care facility. Also, this definition would include rehab hospitals, which we currently have as a separate node..

    Other proposals?
