63252-1Ganglioside GM3 IgG+IgM Ab [Presence] in Serum by ImmunoassayActive
Part Descriptions
LP99621-2 Ganglioside GM3
GM3 is a ganglioside found both within and outside the central nervous system. Anti-GM3 autoantibodies have been associated with Guillain-Barre syndrome, acute and isolated bulbar palsy, chronic ataxic neuropathy, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy and type 2 diabetes. LP222219-0 Ganglioside
A ganglioside molecule consists of a glycosphingolipid (ceramide and oligosaccharide) with one or more sialic acid residues linked to the sugar chain. Molecules with one sialic acid residue are called monosialogangliosides (GM), those with two are called disialogangliosides (GD), and those with three are trisialogangliosides (GT). Gangliosides without any sialic acid residues are called asialogangliosides, while those that do not have a ceramide N-acyl group are called lysogangliosides. The number that typically is included at the end of the name indicates the order in which the molecule was discovered. For example, GM2 is a ganglioside with one sialic acid residue that was the second GM to be identified.

- Change Reason
- The PrThr property is used for LOINC terms whose results are reported using an ordered categorical scale, regardless of whether or not an internal threshold was used to make that determination. This change was approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.; The EIA method, which was always intended to cover more than just enzyme-linked immunoassay and whose display name for the long common name has always been Immunoassay, was renamed IA in order to eliminate ambiguity about whether the method has a broader meaning than just enzyme-linked immunoassay. Likewise, EIA.rapid was renamed IA.rapid. These changes were approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.
