Term Description
The Osteoporosis Risk Assessment Instrument (ORAI) is a simple questionnaire to identify osteoporosis risk and facilitate bone mineral density (BMD) testing. ORAI is based on three variables: age, weight, and non-current estrogen use. The score is calculated by non-current usage of estrogen (yes=2, no=0) plus(+) body weight (less than 60 kg = 9; between 60 and 70 kg = 3, above 70kg =0) plus(+) age in years (75 years or more = 15, between 65-74 years = 9, between 55-64 = 5, between 45-54 = 0) . Scores of 9 or greater indicate designation for bone densitometry. [PMID:10813010]
