LP421092-0 Oropouche virus
Oropouche virus (OROV) was isolated in approximately 1955 in Trinidad and Tobago [PMID:28167595]. Following the discovery OROV has caused several outbreaks and infections in the Brazilian Amazon [PMID:31801869]. OROV contains three single-stranded negative sense segments of genomic RNA. [PMID:28167595]. OROV belongs to the family Peribunyaviridae, genus Orthobunyavirus. The primary vector indicated is Culicoides paraenesis; however, Culex quinquefasciatus and Culex sp. mosquitoes are also associated with transmission. OROV presents as acute febrile illness with symptoms including fever, chills, headaches, myalgia, and joint pain [PMID:31801869].
