LP421096-1 Bwamba virus
Bwamba virus (BWA) was identified in 1937 during construction work in Bwamba County, Western Uganda. BWA belongs to the family Peribunyaviridae, genus Orthobunyavirus [NCBI Taxonomy:35310]. Transmission occurs through various mosquitoes; however, the primary vectors are Anopheles funestus and Anopheles gambiae. BWA presents as a generalized febrile illness with symptoms including exanthema, fever, headache, arthralgia, and diarrhea [PMID:12789111]. BWA can also include meningeal involvement and fatal hemorrhagic complications have been reported [PMID:25188437].
