Part Descriptions
LP203321-7 Blood flow velocity.A wave.max
The A wave represents the flow of blood through the mitral or tricuspid valve into the ventricle (ventricular filling) during atrial contraction. During the A wave, upper-case A represents the blood flow velocity (LOINC component: blood flow velocity.A wave) and lower-case a prime (a') represents the annular tissue velocity (LOINC component: tissue velocity.A wave). The A and a' waves follow the E (LOINC component: blood flow velocity.E wave) and e' waves (LOINC component: tissue velocity.E wave), which represent ventricular filling during early diastole, before the start of atrial contraction. LP6617-7 US.doppler
Doppler ultrasound detects the shift in frequency of ultrasound signals reflected from moving objects. Conventional Doppler techniques assess the velocity of blood flow by measuring high-frequency, low-amplitude signals from small, fast-moving blood cells. PMID: 16534017
