101478-6 Ampicillin+Sulbactam [Susceptibility] by MIC.VOC detection in Positive blood culture
Part Descriptions
LP15937-3 Ampicillin+Sulbactam
Ampicillin/sulbactam is a combination of the common penicillin-derived antibiotic ampicillin and sulbactam, an inhibitor of bacterial beta-lactamase. Two different forms of the drug exist. The first, developed in 1987 and marketed in the United States under the tradename Unasyn, is an intravenous antibiotic. The second, an oral form called sultamicillin, is marketed under the trade name Ampictam outside of the United States. Ampicillin/sulbactam is used to treat infections caused by bacteria resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics. Sulbactam blocks the enzyme which breaks down ampicillin and thereby allows ampicillin to attack and kill the bacteria.

101483-6 cefTAZidime+Avibactam [Susceptibility] by MIC.VOC detection in Positive blood culture
Part Descriptions
LP172560-7 cefTAZidime+Avibactam
Ceftazidime is a third generation cephalosporin that exhibits broad-spectrum treatment against Gram-positive and Gram-negative aerobic bacteria. It is especially effective against Enterobacteriaceae and is resistant to most beta-lactamases. PMID: 3884319 Avibactam is a synthetic non-beta-lactamase inhibitor that is used to treat class A serine carbapenemases including Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC). In 2011, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognized the gap in antimicrobials against carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) and made the development of such new antimicrobials among its highest priorities. Ceftazidime+Avibactam was approved by an expedited process in 2014 by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat complicated urinary infections caused by (CPE). When ceftazidime+avibactam and metronidazole are use together, they are approved to treat complicated intra-abdominal CPE infections. The first case of resistance of KPC to ceftazidime-avibactam occurred in 2015 in a patient who had never taken ceftazidime-avibactam.[http://aac.asm.org/content/59/10/6605.full]

LP172561-5 Ceftolozane+Tazobactam
Ceftolozane is a cephalosporin with powerful activity against Gram-negative bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacteriaceae.[http://aac.asm.org/content/57/4/1577.full] Tazobactam is a beta lactamase inhibitor and penicillin derivative that is effective against beta-lactamase-producing bacteria.[PubChem: 123630] Ceftolozane blocks penicillin binding proteins which disrupts bacterial cell-wall synthesis that leads to bacterial cell death. When tazobactam is added to ceftolozane, there is a broader spectrum of antimicrobial activity against resistant strains including extended spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs).Tazobactam prevents class A beta-lactamases and some class C beta-lactamases from hydrolyzing ceftolozane. Together, ceftolozane+tazobactam are an effective treatment for complicated urinary tract infections, complicated intra-abdominal infections, hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia, and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia. 101494-3 Gentamicin [Susceptibility] by MIC.VOC detection in Positive blood culture
Part Descriptions
LP15747-6 Gentamicin
Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic, which has a bactericidal mode of action binding to the ribosome and various ribozymes to inhibit protein synthesis. Gentamicin is a hydrophilic molecule and is considered to have limited capacity to penetrate eukaryotic cells. Administered intravenously or intramuscularly, gentamicin is used to treat many bacterial infections, particularly gram-negative organisms such as meningitis, and infections of the blood, abdomen, lungs, skin, bones, joints and urinary tract, and is often used to treat severe cases of tularemia and the plague. The effect of gentamicin is mediated through the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which causes destablization of iron-sulfur (Fe-S) clusters and generates toxic, bactericidal compounds through the Fenton reaction. Gentamicin may cause kidney, nerve and severe hearing problems. More common side effects include nausea, headache, fever, rash and hoarseness. PMID: 26503658 [MedlinePlus Drug:a682275]

101496-8 Tobramycin [Susceptibility] by MIC.VOC detection in Positive blood culture
Part Descriptions
LP16294-8 Tobramycin
Tobramycin sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic produced by Streptomyces tenebrarius used to treat various bacterial infections, particularly Gram-negative infections. It works by binding to a site on the bacterial ribosome, causing the genetic code to be misread. Like all aminoglycosides, tobramycin does not pass the gastro-intestinal tract, so for systemic use it can only be given intravenously or intramuscularly. This formulation for injection is branded Nebcin®. Patients with cystic fibrosis will often take an inhalational form (Tobi®) for suppression of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections. Tobramycin is also combined with dexamethasone as an ophthalmic solution (TobraDex®). Bausch Lomb Pharmaceuticals, Inc. makes a sterile Tobramycin Ophthalmic Solution (eye-drops) with a tobramycin concentration of 0.3%. In the USA it is available by prescription only.

101497-6 Aztreonam [Susceptibility] by MIC.VOC detection in Positive blood culture
Part Descriptions
LP16041-3 Aztreonam
Aztreonam (Azactam®) is a monocyclic beta-lactam antibiotic (a monobactam) originally isolated from Chromobacterium violaceum. It is resistant to some beta-lactamases, but is inactivated by extended-spectrum beta-lactamases. Aztreonam is effective against gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It is not effective against gram-positive bacteria or anaerobes. Aztreonam has to be administered intravenously, as the compound is poorly absorbed when given orally. Side-effects include reactions at the injection site, diarrhea and other gastro-intestinal symptoms. There is limited cross-reactivity between aztreonam and other beta-lactam antibiotics, and it is generally considered safe to admininister aztreonam to patients allergic to penicillin.

101499-2 Tigecycline [Susceptibility] by MIC.VOC detection in Positive blood culture
Part Descriptions
LP36048-4 Tigecycline
Tiglylglycine is an acyl glycine. Acyl glycines are normally minor metabolites of fatty acids. However, the excretion of certain acyl glycines is increased in several inborn errors of metabolism. In certain cases the measurement of these metabolites in body fluids can be used to diagnose disorders associated with mitochondrial fatty acid beta-oxidation. Acyl glycines are produced through the action of glycine N-acyltransferase (EC 2.3.1.13) which is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction: acyl-CoA + glycine < -- > CoA + N-acylglycine Tiglylglycine is an intermediate product of the catabolism of isoleucine. An elevated level of tiglylglycine is identified in urine of patients with beta-ketothiolase deficiency or with disorders of propionate metabolism PMID: 7923765.

101503-1 Cefuroxime [Susceptibility] by MIC.VOC detection in Positive blood culture
Part Descriptions
LP32648-5 Cefuroxime
Cefuroxime (brand names Ceftin, Zinacef, Supacef) is a broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic resistant to beta-lactamase and used to treat infections caused by gram-negative and gram-positive organisms. Free cefuroxime is the non-protein bound form of cefuroxime in the blood. Bound cefuroxime constitutes 33 to 50% of circulating cefuroxime. PMID: 2393271 Cefuroxime levels are measured for therapeutic drug monitoring and to avoid toxicity. Blood levels of cefuroxime can be reduced by dialysis.

101504-9 Tetracycline [Susceptibility] by MIC.VOC detection in Positive blood culture
Part Descriptions
LP16286-4 Tetracycline
Tetracycline, a broad-spectrum naphthacene antibiotic produced by the streptomyces bacterium, is used against many gram negative and gram positive bacteria. It inhibits amino acyl tRNA binding during protein systhesis and is commonly used to treat acne. It is sold under the brand names Sumycin®, Tetracyn®, and Panmycin®, among others. Actisite® is a thread-like fiber form, used in dental applications. It is also used to produce several semi-synthetic derivatives, which together are known as the tetracycline antibiotic group. It works by inhibiting the action of the prokaryotic 30S ribosome. Toxicity may be due to the inactivation of mitochondrial 30S ribosomes in host cells.
