9407-8 Alpha 1 antitrypsin [Mass/volume] in Stool
Part Descriptions
LP14643-8 Alpha 1 antitrypsin
Used to diagnose hereditary hypo α1-antitrypsin (α1AT). An increased prevalence of non-MM phenotypes is found with cryptogenic cirrhosis and with CAH. Cirrhosis in a child should raise consideration of α1AT deficiency or Wilson's disease. Diagnosis of inflammatory states, if elevated (eg, rheumatoid arthritis, bacterial infection, vasculitis, neoplasia). Alpha 1-antitrypsin or α1-antitrypsin (A1AT) is a serine protease inhibitor (serpin). It protects tissue from enzymes from inflammatory cells, especially elastase, and is present in human blood at 1.5 - 3.5 gram liter.

38445-3 Calprotectin [Mass/mass] in Stool
Part Descriptions
LP34583-2 Calprotectin
Calprotectin is a calcium-binding protein secreted predominantly by neutrophils during bacterial infection or inflammation. It is a biomarker used in the evaluation of chronic inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Elevated fecal levels have been seen in patient's with IBD and GI tract infections. PMID: 28115781 Calprotectin levels in synovial fluid may be measured for the diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infections (PJI). PMID: 31542266

25907-7 Elastase.pancreatic [Mass/mass] in Stool
Part Descriptions
LP20859-2 Elastase.pancreatic
Pancreatic Elastase testing is used to aid diagnosis of the exocrine pancreatic function. Pancreatic elastase is a digestive enzyme produced exclusively by the pancreas. The enzyme is responsible for breaking down protein in food. Pancreatic insufficiency occurs when the pancreas cannot produce enough digestive enzymes to break down food in the intestine for absorption.

11060-1 Reducing substances [Presence] in Stool
Term Description
This term represents typical reducing substance assays that detect reducing substances in stool without (or before) the addition of HCl. These assays do not detect sugars that are not reducing, such as sucrose. A different code [LOINC: 57796-5] represents the stool reducing substance assay with the addition of HCl, which hydrolyzes sugars that are not typically reducing and converts them into a reducing form.

Part Descriptions
LP15040-6 Reducing substances
A reducing sugar is any sugar that, in basic solution, forms an aldehyde or aketone. This allows the sugar to act as a reducing agent as in the Maillard and Benedict's reactions. Reducing sugars include glucose, fructose, glyceraldehyde, lactose, arabinose and maltose. All monosaccharides which contain ketone groups are known as ketoses, and those which contain aldehyde groups are known as aldoses. Sucrose and trehalose are not reducing sugars.

- The PrThr property is used for LOINC terms whose results are reported using an ordered categorical scale, regardless of whether or not an internal threshold was used to make that determination. This change was approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.
