Schistosoma sp identified in Urine sediment by Light microscopy
Active
Part Description
LP14845-9 Schistosoma sp
A genus of trematodes, Schistosoma, (also called blood-flukes or parasitic flatworms) is responsible for a very significant group of infections in humans termed schistosomiasis. Schistosomiasis is considered by the World Health Organization as the second most socioeconomically devastating parasitic disease, (after malaria), with hundreds of millions infected worldwide.[WHO] The three main species infecting humans are Schistosoma haematobium, S. japonicum, and S. mansoni. Two other species, more localized geographically, are S. mekongi and S. intercalatum. Other species of schistosomes which parasitize birds and mammals can cause cercarial dermatitis in humans.
