Asparagine is a hydrophilic amino acid with uncharged polar groups that represents the storage form of ammonia in tissues. Found in asparagus, asparagine is closely related to aspartic acid and is required for protein synthesis and peptide hormone production. Low levels may indicate magnesium deficiency.
