Aortic valve Regurgitant blood flow pressure half-time by US.doppler
Active
Term Description
MC686; Time from peak AR gradient to 1/2 peak gradient
Part Descriptions
LP411015-3 Regurgitant blood flow pressure half-time
Pressure half-time is the time needed for the atrioventricular pressure gradient to reduce to half its initial measurement during ventricular diastole. It is primarily assessed through Doppler echocardiography though more invasive cardiac catherization and provides a means of calculating the approximate mitral valve area and evaluating mitral valve stenosis regurgitation. Caution should be used when applying pressure half-time measurements in patients with prosthetic mitral valves, mitral commissurotomy, tachycardia, arrhythmias, and aortic insufficiency. LP6617-7 US.doppler
Doppler ultrasound detects the shift in frequency of ultrasound signals reflected from moving objects. Conventional Doppler techniques assess the velocity of blood flow by measuring high-frequency, low-amplitude signals from small, fast-moving blood cells. PMID: 16534017
