788-0 | Erythrocyte [DistWidth] in Red Blood Cells by Automated count |
Term Description
The RDW-SD is determined from the RBC volume distribution curve. It is calculated from the width of the curve at 20% of the peak count.
Part Description
LP17698-9 Erythrocyte distribution width
Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW) is a measurement of anisocytosis. RDW is elevated in iron deficiency anemia and beta thalassemia major and usually normal in beta thalassemia minor. RDW has also been shown to be significantly increased in pregnant women during gestational week 34 through labor onset. Information from Laboratory Test Handbook, Jacobs DS, DeMott WR,Oxley DK;LexiComp,2001.
