Part Descriptions
LP20898-0 Androstenediol
An intermediate in testosterone biosynthesis, found in the testis or the adrenal glands. Androstenediol, derived from DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE by the reduction of the 17-keto group (17-HYDROXYSTEROID DEHYDROGENASES), is converted to TESTOSTERONE by the oxidation of the 3-beta hydroxyl group to a 3-keto group (3-HYDROXYSTEROID DEHYDROGENASES).

LP20898-0 Androstenediol
Androstenediol (5-androstene-3β,17β-diol, AED) and androstenetriol (5-androstene-3β,7β,17β-triol, AET) are downstream metabolites of dehydroepiandrostrone (5-androstene-3β-ol-17-one, DHEA). As steroid hormones, they upregulate immune response and prevent morbidity and mortality from various infections from bacterial and viral agents. AED and AET are also thought to counteract stress-mediated immune suppression. PMID: 11268417 Androstenetriol is found in urine in healthy subjects during growth and is one of the markers that reflects the changes of the adrenarche process in boys and girls (Adrenarche is the adrenal glands maturaty).[HMDB ID: HMDB00550]

LP32035-5 Creatinine
Creatinine or creatine anhydride, is a breakdown product of creatine phosphate in muscle. The loss of water molecule from creatine results in the formation of creatinine. It is transferred to the kidneys by blood plasma, whereupon it is eliminated by glomular filtration and partial tubular excretion. Creatinine is usually produced at a fairly constant rate and measuring its serum level is a simple test. A rise in blood creatinine levels is observed only with marked damage to functioning nephrons; therefore this test is not suitable for detecting early kidney disease. Creatine and creatinine are metabolized in the kidneys, muscle, liver and pancreas.
