Cache Valley virus (CVV) was isolated in Cache Valley, Utah, in 1956. CVV is a mosquito borne member of the Bunyamwera serogroup belonging to the family Peribunyaviridae, genus Orthobunyavirus [NCBI Taxonomy: 80935] [CDC:cache-valley/healthcare-providers/index.html]. The primary vectors are unknown; however CVV has been isolated in multiple mosquito species including Anopheles, Culiseta, Coquillettidia, Aedes , and most commonly Anopheles quadrimaculatus PMID: 16704854 [CDC: cache-valley/healthcare-providers/index.html]. CVV is neuroinvasive and rarely diagnosed in North America PMID: 16704854. Symptoms produced can be life threatening and include fever, encephalitis, or meningitis PMID: 25962774.
