Part Descriptions
LP39075-4 Mycobacterium sp identified
Mycobacterium (a genus of Actinobacteria in family Mycobacteriaceae) includes pathogens known to cause serious diseases in mammals, including tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) and leprosy (M. leprae). Lesser known disorders include mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) and hypersensitivity pneumonitis among others. Mycobacterium are aerobic non-motile Gram-positive, classified as an acid-fast Gram positive straight or slightly curved rods. Many species adapt readily to growth on very simple substrates while other species can be very difficult to culture (fastidious). A natural division occurs between slowly and rapidly growing species; Mycobacteria that form colonies clearly visible to the naked eye within seven days on subculture are termed rapid growers, while those requiring longer periods are slow growers. Mycobacteria are widespread organisms, typically living in water and food sources. Some, however, including the tuberculosis and the leprosy organisms, are obligate parasites and are not found as free-living members of the genus. Mycobacterial infections are notoriously difficult to treat.

LP6429-7 Organism specific culture
An organism-specific culture contains nutrients that optimize the growth of a specific organism and inhibitors that prevent the growth of competing organisms.

LP7238-1 Body fld
The LOINC "Body fld" System represents body fluids other than serum, plasma, blood, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid. When a LOINC term with the System "Body fld" is used, the specific specimen source or body fluid type should be reported elsewhere with the result. Where more specific terms for pleural, peritoneal, synovial fluid, etc. exist, we encourage you to use the more specific terms. In contrast to "Body fld", the System "Asp" in LOINC represents the fluid withdrawn during an aspiration procedure from an abnormal collection of fluid, such as from an abscess or cyst. "Asp" is used for abnormal fluid collections that are aspirated, while "Body fld" is used for named body fluids, such as synovial fluid or peritoneal fluid, that are not inherently pathologic.
