Part Descriptions
LP32035-5 Creatinine
Creatinine or creatine anhydride, is a breakdown product of creatine phosphate in muscle. The loss of water molecule from creatine results in the formation of creatinine. It is transferred to the kidneys by blood plasma, whereupon it is eliminated by glomular filtration and partial tubular excretion. Creatinine is usually produced at a fairly constant rate and measuring its serum level is a simple test. A rise in blood creatinine levels is observed only with marked damage to functioning nephrons; therefore this test is not suitable for detecting early kidney disease. Creatine and creatinine are metabolized in the kidneys, muscle, liver and pancreas.

LP36909-7 Ethyl glucuronide
Ethyl glucuronide is a natural human metabolite of Ethanol generated in the liver by UDP glucuonyltransferase. Glucuronidation is used to assist in the excretion of toxic substances, drugs or other substances that cannot be used as an energy source. Glucuronic acid is attached via a glycosidic bond to the substance, and the resulting glucuronide, which has a much higher water solubility than the original substance, is eventually excreted by the kidneys.

LP36909-7 Ethyl glucuronide
Ethyl glucuronide (EtG), a metabolite of ethyl alcohol formed in the body by glucuronidation following ethanol exposure, is a biomarker for ethanol use and a monitor to document alcohol abstinence in circumstances where drinking is prohibited, such as by the military, in professional monitoring programs, in schools, liver transplant clinics, or in recovering alcoholic patients. A disadvantage of the test is that because EtG can be detected at very low levels, it can also be positive after exposure to alcohol from non-beverage sources such as mouthwash, foods, over-the-counter medications, or incidental exposure, which can lead to false positives.
