Part Descriptions
LP102596-6 Norhydrocodone
Norhydrocodone is a metabolite of hydrocodone, a narcotic analgesic related to codeine, but more potent and more addicting by weight. It is used also as cough suppressant. Drug testing of pain patients provides objective information to health specialists regarding patient compliance, diversion, and concurrent illicit drug use. The interpretation of test results can be difficult however because of complex biotransformations of parent drug to metabolites that are also available commercially and may be abused. Additional testing for normetabolites, such as norhydrocodone, provides conclusive evidence that the parent drug was consumed and is helpful in interpreting the opiate drug source, and also reduces potential false negatives. LP32035-5 Creatinine
Creatinine or creatine anhydride, is a breakdown product of creatine phosphate in muscle. The loss of water molecule from creatine results in the formation of creatinine. It is transferred to the kidneys by blood plasma, whereupon it is eliminated by glomular filtration and partial tubular excretion. Creatinine is usually produced at a fairly constant rate and measuring its serum level is a simple test. A rise in blood creatinine levels is observed only with marked damage to functioning nephrons; therefore this test is not suitable for detecting early kidney disease. Creatine and creatinine are metabolized in the kidneys, muscle, liver and pancreas.
