Part Descriptions
LP13974-8 Salix caprea
The botanical family Willow (Salicaceae) consists of Populus and Salix, the latter being true Willows. Populus deltoides is the common designation for Populus species of trees in this genus, but it can be divided into 3 distinct groups: Aspens, Cottonwoods and Poplars. A tree species producing pollen, which often induces hayfever, asthma, and conjunctivitis in sensitized individuals. Cottonwood, native to North America, is dioecious (having separate sexes); that is, each tree is either male or female, not both. The genus Populus contains about 30 species in North America, Europe, North Africa and temperate Asia. Cottonwood flowers in early spring, with time of pollen production, depending on region. Populus species are entirely wind pollinated, as distinct from Willows, which are primarily insect-pollinated.

Willows are cool-climate trees and are common in most of Europe, North America, western temperate Asia, and northeast Africa.
Willow tree pollen can induce asthma, allergic rhinitis and allergic conjunctivitis. As a close relationship exists between this Willow and other species, these species, where they commonly occur, may also induce allergic symptoms
