Bacterial vaginosis DNA and score panel - Vaginal fluid by NAA with probe detection
Active
69566-8 Bacterial vaginosis associated bacterium 2 DNA [Presence] in Vaginal fluid by NAA with probe detection
Term Description
The result (score) for this test is based on the quantity of Bacterial Vaginosis Associated Bacterium 2 (BVAB2) in vaginal fluid by nucleic acid amplification compared to known calibrator values. The score is used to determine the presence of bacterial vaginosis (see LOINC 69564-3).

Part Descriptions
LP140227-2 Bacterial vaginosis associated bacterium 2
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common vaginal infection, occurring when there is an overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria in the vagina. BV infections are complex and polymicrobial, involving multiple species of bacteria, including Megasphaera species Type 1 (Mega1), Atopobium vaginae, and Bacterial Vaginosis Associated Bacterium 2 (BVAB2), which can grow in excess and cause vaginal irritation. BVAB2 is originally identified by 16S ribosomal sequences from vaginal flora of women with BV (as being in the order Clostridialis).

LP140226-4 Atopobium vaginae
Atopobium vaginae is a species of Actinobacteria within the genus Atopobium. A. vaginae are anaerobic, Gram-positive bacteria associated with a wide variety of infections, including bacterial vaginosis. A. vaginae is known to be resistant to several antimicrobial treatments, including metronidazole and clindamycin.

69564-3 Bacterial vaginosis score in Vaginal fluid Qualitative by NAA with probe detection
Term Description
The total bacterial vaginosis (BV) score is an indicator of the presence of bacterial vaginosis in vaginal fluid. The total BV score is the sum of the three individual target scores of Atopobium vaginae (AV), Bacterial Vaginosis-Associated Bacterium 2 (BVAB2) and Megasphaera species Type 1 (Mega1). A total score of 0-1 indicates the absence of BV, 2 is indeterminate for BV, and 3-6 indicates the presence of BV.

69568-4 Bacterial vaginosis [Interpretation]
Term Description
This term refers to the overall interpretation (positive, negative, indeterminant) for the presence of bacterial vaginosis based on the total score [LOINC: 69564-3] for Atopobium vaginae (AV), Bacterial Vaginosis-Associated Bacterium 2 (BVAB2) and Megasphaera species Type 1 (Mega1).
Source: Regenstrief LOINC
Part Descriptions
LP63734-5 Bacterial vaginosis
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common cause of vaginal infection. It is less commonly referred to as vaginal bacteriosis. It is not considered to be a sexually transmitted infection. BV is not transmitted through sexual intercourse but is more common in women who are sexually active. BV is caused by an imbalance of naturally occurring bacterial flora and should not be confused with yeast infection (candidiasis), or infection with Trichomonas vaginalis (trichomoniasis), which are not caused by bacteria.
