70959-2 Protein catabolic rate adjusted for body weight based on Serum or Plasma [Calculated]
Term Description
Indicates patient's Normalized Protein Catabolic Rate (nPCR)
Source: Regenstrief LOINC
Part Descriptions
LP411545-9 Protein catabolic rate
Protein catabolic rates can be used to estimate protein intake in dialysis patients and determine if dietary protein consumption is appropriate. Protein catabolic rate (PCR) is calculated using the urea-nitrogen appearance rate (UNA). Special consideration including, dietary monitoring of caloric and protein intake, should be given to patients with low protein catabolic rates. PMID: 2129442

Part Descriptions
LP14288-2 Urea
A compound formed in the liver from ammonia produced by the deamination of amino acids. It is the principal end product of protein catabolism and constitutes about one half of the total urinary solids.
Source: National Library of Medicine, MeSH 2006
LP14288-2 Urea
Urea, also called carbamide, is an organic chemical compound involved in the metabolism of nitrogen-containing compounds and in the re-absorption of water and critical ions from excreted urine, an important mechanism in prevention of water loss and maintaining blood pressure. Urea levels are measured to diagnose conditions that affect the kidneys, such as acute kidney failure or end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and the urine urea nitrogen (UUN) tests may be used to determine how well a patient's kidneys are functioning. Increased or decreased levels of urea may also suggest dehydration or increased protein intake.

71341-2 Kt/V.Peritoneal Dialysis [Percent of body weight]
Term Description
Indicates the Kt/V urea (dialysate and urine clearance) at the time the Kt/V PD adequacy measurement was performed. K (clearance) multiplied by t (time) is a volume (since mL/min x min = mL, or L/hr x hr = L), and (K x t) can be thought of as the mL or L of fluid (blood in this case) cleared of urea (or any other solute) during the course of a single treatment. V also is a volume, expressed in mL or L. So the ratio of K x t / V is a so-called "dimensionless ratio" and can be thought of as a multiple of the volume of plasma cleared of urea divided by the distribution volume of urea. When Kt/V = 1.0, a volume of blood equal to the distribution volume of urea has been completely cleared of urea.

2160-0 Creatinine [Mass/volume] in Serum or Plasma
Part Descriptions
LP14355-9 Creatinine
Creatinine or creatine anhydride, is a breakdown product of creatine phosphate in muscle. The loss of water molecule from creatine results in the formation of creatinine. It is transferred to the kidneys by blood plasma, whereupon it is eliminated by glomular filtration and partial tubular excretion. Creatinine is usually produced at a fairly constant rate and measuring its serum level is a simple test. A rise in blood creatinine levels is observed only with marked damage to functioning nephrons; therefore this test is not suitable for detecting early kidney disease. Creatine and creatinine are metabolized in the kidneys, muscle, liver and pancreas.

70966-7 Kt/V.Hemodialysis [UKM]
Term Description
Indicates the Single Pool Kt/V value for Hemodialysis by Urea Kinetic Method.

71342-0 Kt/V.Hemodialysis [Derived]
Term Description
Derived from Urea Reduction Ratio, no patient weight. Formula is 100 x (1 - [C1/C0]), in which C1 is the blood urea nitrogen measured 5 minutes after the end of dialysis and C0 is the predialysis blood urea nitrogen. It is a quantitative measurement of an individual patient's urea clearance during a single hemodialysis treatment and can be used as a proxy for the adequacy of solute clearance during a treatment.

70954-3 Standard process followed for residual renal function assessed in calculating Kt/V [ESRD]
Term Description
Indicates whether the standard process of assessing Residual Renal Function was performed when calculating the Weekly Kt/V. K (clearance) multiplied by t (time) is a volume (since mL/min x min = mL, or L/hr x hr = L), and (K x t) can be thought of as the mL or L of fluid (blood in this case) cleared of urea (or any other solute) during the course of a single treatment. 11065-0 Urea nitrogen [Mass/volume] in Serum or Plasma --pre dialysis
Part Descriptions
LP14492-0 Urea nitrogen
Urea nitrogen is the waste product formed in the liver when proteins are broken down into their respective amino acids. Once proteins are metabolized in the liver, urea nitrogen is released from the liver to the kidneys via the bloodstream. The kidneys then filter the urea nitrogen out of the bloodstream into the urine. Although the kidneys filter out most of the urea nitrogen in the blood, small traces of stable urea nitrogen remain in circulation. To evaluate kidney function, a blood urea nitrogen test (BUN test) is conducted. High amounts of urea nitrogen in the BUN test indicate complications with kidney function or decreased blood flow to the kidneys. A decrease in urea nitrogen in the BUN test is indicative of severe liver disease or malnutrition. [Lab Tests Online:bun/tab/sample/]

12979-1 Urea nitrogen [Mass/volume] in Peritoneal dialysis fluid --24 hour specimen

3094-0 Urea nitrogen [Mass/volume] in Serum or Plasma
