Arbovirus identified in Serum by Immunofluorescence
Active
Term Description
The presence of clinically relevant mosquito-borne viruses, including Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), St. Louis Encephalitis (SLE), Western Equine Encephalitis (WEE), and California Encephalitis (CE) group viruses, is determined by qualitative detection of human Arbovirus IgG antibodies to each of the viruses. This code is used to report the arbovirus identified. Clinical correlation is necessary. This term was created for, but not limited in use to, the submitter's reporting style for Focus Diagnostics' Arbovirus IgM Indirect Immunofluorescent Antibody IFA) assay.
Part Description
LP17107-1 Arbovirus
Arbovirus is a term used to refer to a group of viruses that are transmitted by arthropod vectors. The word arbovirus is an acronym (ARthropod-BOrne viruses). Some arboviruses are able to cause emergent disease.
Many arboviruses (such as African Swine Fever virus) do not normally infect humans or if so, cause only mild and transient infections characterized by fever, headache and rash. Others of this group however can cause epidemic disease and severe infections such as fulminant meningitis, encephalitis, meningoencephalitis, or viral hemorrhagic fever that can be fatal.
