Dihydroorotic acid [HMDB ID: HMDB03349] is an intermediate in the metabolism of pyrimidine. Glutamine, ATP, and carbon dioxide are converted into dihydroorotic acid, which oxidizes to orotic acid by dihydroorotate dehydrogenase. PMID: 15375016 Dihydroorotic acid, orotic acid and other de novo metabolites in urine are useful in investigating inborn errors of the pyrimidine metabolism or urea cycle defects.
