Liver ultrasound attenuation by transient elastography
Active
Term Description
A measure of the attenuation of the ultrasound signal (loss of energy) as it travels through and returns from the liver at 3.5 MHz, often reported simultaneously with liver stiffness [LOINC:77615-3]. Based on the principle that ultrasound propagation is affected by tissue fat content, the ultrasound attenuation measurement, referred to as Controlled Attenuation Parameter (CAP), is a measure of liver fat content (steatosis) and expressed in dB/m. Increasing steatosis is associated with higher levels of signal attenuation. PMID: 22404722
