Part Descriptions
LP101395-4 Sex
In LOINC, sex refers to the biological sex of an organism, which is most commonly determined based on anatomy and physiology or genetic (chromosome) analysis. Our definition is based on the World Health Organization's definition of sex and gender: sex (male, female) refers to biological and physiological characteristics, and gender (masculine, feminine) refers to socially constructed roles, behaviors, activities, and attributes. 82288-2 Absolute aerobic exercise intensity
Term Description
The patient's level of aerobic absolute exercise intensity based on the rate of energy expenditure during aerobic (endurance) physical activity. This term was created for, but not limited in use to, the absolute intensity level as classified by the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines (PAG) for Americans. Based on the 2008 PAG, light-intensity activity expends 1.1 to 2.9 times the amount of energy expended when a person is at rest, moderate-intensity activities expend 3.0 to 5.9 times, and vigorous-intensity activities expend 6.0 or more times the energy expended at rest.
Source: Regenstrief LOINC
Part Descriptions
LP217203-1 Absolute aerobic exercise intensity
Exercise intensity levels can be categorized as light, moderate or vigorous. Intensity can be further defined in absolute or relative terms. Absolute exercise intensity is independent of an individual's level of fitness and defined in terms of metabolic equivalents, or METs, which is a unit useful for describing the energy expenditure of a specific activity. Light intensity exercise is defined at 1.1-2.9 METs, moderate is 3.0 to 5.9 METs and vigorous is 6.0 METs or more, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services' Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee (2008). The Advisory Committee indicated that 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) of moderate-intensity activity per week could be regarded as (roughly) equivalent to 500 MET-minutes per week. Relative intensity takes an individual's level of fitness and can be defined in terms of a percent of a person's (1) maximal heart rate, (2) heart rate reserve, or (3) aerobic capacity reserve. Relative moderate intensity is defined as 40 to 59 percent of aerobic capacity reserve (where 0 percent of reserve is resting and 100 percent of reserve is maximal effort). Relatively vigorous-intensity activity is defined as 60 to 84 percent of reserve.

82289-0 Rating of perceived exertion [Score]
Term Description
The patient's perceived relative intensity level based on their level of effort relative to his or her fitness. Patients who are less fit generally require a higher level of effort than fitter people who do the same activity. This term was created for, but not limited in use to, the relative intensity level as classified by the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines (PAG) for Americans. According to the 2008 PAG, on a scale of 0 to 10, where sitting is 0 and the highest level of effort possible is 10, moderate-intensity activity is at a level of 5 or 6, and vigorous-intensity activity is a 7 or 8.

82290-8 Frequency of moderate to vigorous aerobic physical activity
Term Description
The frequency (days/week, min/week, hours/day, etc.) that the patient spends doing moderate to vigorous aerobic physical activity per week. According to the 2008 Physical activity guidelines (PAG) for Americans, adult patients should spend at least 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) a week doing moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity or 75 minutes (1 hour and 15 minutes) a week of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity. Adults who do 300 minutes (5 hours) of moderate intensity aerobic physical activity a week, or 150 minutes of vigorous intensity aerobic physical activity, have greater health benefits. For children and adolescents, the 2008 PAG recommends about 60 minutes or more per day and at least 3 days per week of either moderate- or vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity.

82293-2 Frequency of bone-strengthening physical activity
Term Description
The frequency (days/week, hours/day, etc.) a patient spends doing bone-strengthening activities (sometimes called weight-bearing or weight-loading activity). This kind of activity is commonly produced by impact with the ground and promotes bone growth and strength. According to the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines (PAG) for Americans, children and adolescents should include bone-strengthening physical activity on at least 3 days of the week as part of their 60 or more minutes of daily physical activity. Bone-strengthening activities can also be aerobic and muscle-strengthening. Examples include running, jumping rope, basketball, tennis, and hopscotch.

82291-6 Frequency of muscle-strengthening physical activity
Term Description
The frequency (days/week, hours/day, etc.) a patient spends doing muscle-strengthening activities. According to the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, children and adolescents should do muscle-strengthening physical activities at least 3 days per week and adults should do muscle-strengthening activities that are moderate or high intensity and involve all major muscle group at least 2 days a week.

82292-4 Meeting recommended guidelines for physical activity
Term Description
Indicates whether a patient is meeting the recommended guidelines for various types of physical activities, including aerobic, bone-strengthening and muscle-strengthening activities. For example, according to the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans (2008 PAG), children and adolescents should do muscle-strengthening physical activities at least 3 days per week as part of their 60 minutes or more of daily physical activity. If they do muscle-strengthen activities less than 3 day per week, they are not meeting the recommended guidelines according to the 2008 PAG. If they do more than 3 days per week, they are exceeding the recommended amount.
