Similar to most EIA tests, results are reported as a ratio of optical densities. Although it targets an avian-origin NP protein, the protein has been found useful as a screening test for detection of other type A influenza viruses such as swine influenza virus (SIV), and influenza A viruses in other species such as equine, canine, and feline.

The Influenza nucleoprotein antibody test is useful as a screening test for detection of type A influenza viruses such as swine influenza virus (SIV), and influenza A viruses in other species such as equine, canine, and feline. Influenza virus nucleoprotein (NP) switches RNA synthesis from transcription mode to replication mode. It is therefore vital to the infectious cycle of the influenza virus.
