Part Descriptions
LP34982-6 Human metapneumovirus
Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) is a Paramyxoviridae family virus that causes upper and lower respiratory tract infections in the very young, elderly and those with compromised immune systems. hMPV can vary in its size, shape and staining properties, and shares similar structure with avian pneumovirus (aMPV) and human respiratory syncytial virus (hRSV). Typically, molecular testing methods, like reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR), are used to detect hMPV. hMPV is thought to be responsible for about 5% to 10% of pediatric hospitalizations of those suffering from acute respiratory tract infection.
