Description
This test is used to screen for fetal Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome (SLOS) and Steroid Sulfatase Deficiency (STSD). It is a follow-up test designed to evaluate pregnancies with a low maternal serum unconjugated estriol (uE3) level detected during prenatal screening for Down syndrome and neural tube defects. The maternal serum uE3 level is <0.3 MoM (multiples of the median) in about 60% of SLOS cases and less than or equal to 0.1 MoM in STSD cases. Source: Quest Diagnostics Inc., Fetal SLOS and STSD
