Klebsiella pneumoniae
Active
Description
Klebsiella pneumoniae is part of the Enterobacteriaceae family and is a gram-negative, encapsulated and non-motile bacterium. Humans are the primary carrier of K. pneumonia. Diagnosis is made through a combination of laboratory analysis, and chest x-ray imaging, for example, lobar infiltrate in the posterior aspect of right upper lung and/or bulging fissure sign. K. pneumonia is carried in 5-38% and 1-6% of the general population's stool and nasopharynx, respectively. Up to 77% of hospitalized patients are carriers. PMID: 30085546 Source: Regenstrief LOINC,
