Descriptions

Human coronavirus (HCoV) HKU1 was identified in Hong Kong in 2005. It is associated with upper and lower respiratory tract infections. Source: Regenstrief LOINC

HCoV-HKU1 is a common cause of both upper and lower respiratory tract self-limiting infections, most frequently in young children. Without laboratory diagnosis, typically through reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) of respiratory tract samples, HCoV-HKU1 respiratory tract infections cannot be distinguished from infections cause by other respiratory viruses. Treatment is of symptoms and in-line with general guidelines for support of viral respiratory infections. PMID: 21994538 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
