Aspergillus niger is a genus of mitosporic fungi containing about 100 species and eleven different teleomorphs in the family Trichocomaceae. It is one of the most common species among the genus Aspergillus. It causes black mold on certain types of fruit and vegetables, and is a common food contaminant. A niger is a fungus of the genus Aspergillus and is one of the most common aspergillus species. It cause black mold on some fruits and vegetables including grapes, onions, and peanuts. Some strains of A niger may produce mycotoxins called ochratoxins. If large amounts of A niger spores are inhaled, aspergillosis may occur, but is less likely than encounters involving other aspergillus species.
