Single stranded DNA is a DNA molecule that consists of a single strand as opposed to typical double stranded DNA that cosists of two strands of nucleotides in helical form. Antibody to single stranded DNA is present in numerous systemic rheumatic diseases (systemic lupus erythematosis, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic active hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis).
