Actin

Description
Actin is a protein found in all eukaryotic cells. It is the monomeric subunit of two types of filaments in cells: microfilaments and thin filaments. There are three main groups of actin isoforms - alpha, beta, and gamma. The alpha actins are found in muscle tissues and contribute to muscle contraction. The beta and gamma actins exist in most cell types as components of the cytoskeleton and contribute to cell shape, motility and division. Actin is primarily measured to determine the effects of proteins and drugs on actin polymerization and depolymerization and has been shown to be a host factor for HIV-1 infection.
