Acidity.titratable
Active
Description
Titratable acid is a term to describe acids such as phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid which are involved in renal physiology. Titratable acidity is a measure of the presence of phosphates and organic acids in urine. Patients with insulin resistance or diabetes tend to have increased acidic urine partly due to decreased renal ammoniagenesis. As a result, these patients have increased excretion of daily acid load in the form of titratable acid. Treatment is getting urinary alkalinization to a pH> 6 to 6.5 with oral citrate, which will prevent uric acid crystallization and dissolve pre existing uric acid stones. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
