Version 2.78

Description

Apolipoproteins are a family of proteins involved in cholesterol transport and metabolism. Apoliprotein C interacts with very-low density lipoproteins (VLDLs) and has several forms, including C-I, C-II and C-III, which are encoded by the APOC1, APOC2 and APOC3 genes, respectively. The C-I form mediates the interaction between apolipoprotein E and VLDLs and also binds to free fatty acids and affects their metabolism [UniProt: P02654]. C-II is a component of plasma VLDL [UniProt: P02655], and C-III makes up half of the protein fraction of VLDL [UniProt: P02656]. Source: Regenstrief LOINC, UniProt: P02654
