Version 2.78

Descriptions

An inactive metabolite of PROGESTERONE by reduction at C5, C3, and C20 position. Pregnanediol has two hydroxyl groups, at 3-alpha and 20-alpha. It is detectable in URINE after OVULATION and is found in great quantities in the pregnancy urine. Source: National Library of Medicine, MeSH 2006

Allo-pregnanediol (5α-pregnane-3α,20α-diol), pregnanolone (5β-pregnane-3α-ol-20-one), epipregnanolone (3β-hydoxy-5β-pregnan-20-one) and pregnanediol (5ß-pregnane-3α,20α-diol) are metabolites of progesterone. During pregnancy and in certain phases of the menstruation cycle, these metabolites are excreted at higher levels. They are also important markers in steroid profile analysis in urine for the evaluation of an adrenal 21-hydroxylase-deficiency. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
