Version 2.78

Description

Zinc protoporphyrin is a test used to detect exposure to lead. Elevated Zinc protoporphyrins (ZPP) results are seen in both early and late iron deficiency, the anemia of chronic disease erythropoietic protoporphyria, and chronic lead poisoning. Patients with lead poisoning will also have elevated plasma and urine delta aminolevulinic acid and increased urine coproporphyrin. Urinary porphobilinogen and uroporphyrin are normal to slightly increased. Skin contamination may cause false increases. Test should be used in conjunction with blood lead levels.
