Chlorpropamide testing is intended for use during the evaluation of suspected insulinoma characterized by hypoglycemia and increased plasma insulin concentration. Chlorpropamide is a first-generation sulfonylurea drug. Source: Regenstrief Institute

Sulfonylurea (UK: Sulphonylurea) derivatives are antidiabetic drugs primarily used to treat diabetes mellitus type 2, and include drugs such as Chlorpropamide, Tolazamide, Tolbutamide, Glyburide, Gliclazide, Glipizide, Gliquidone, Acetohexamide and others. They act by increasing insulin release from the beta cells in the pancreas. Sulfonylureas are ineffective where there is absolute deficiency of insulin production such as in type 1 diabetes or post-pancreatectomy.
