Version 2.78

Description

Hemoglobin (Hb) Hope is a beta globin chain variant, that is rarely reported, and can occur in diverse geographic locations and in individuals of diverse ethnicities. This variant Hb is mildly unstable and has reduced oxygen affinity, but is generally harmless clinically. According to previous reports, genetic interaction of Hb Hope with other beta globin mutations, i.e. Hb S, Hb C and Hb E, have been associated with clinically mild anemia. But others have demonstrated that Hb Hope in association with a globin mutation can cause severe microcytic anemia. PMID: 17655700 Source: Regenstrief LOINC, PMID: 17655700
