Description

Saccharopolyspora rectivirgula, formerly known as Micropolyspora faeni, is an aerobic, thermophilic, gram-positive and filamentous bacterial strain that produces short chains of spores both on substrates and on aerial mycelia. S. rectivirgula can be found in soil and moldy hay, and its airborne spores are known to cause exogen allergic alveolitis (EAA, a type of hypersensitive pneumonitis). S. rectivirgula spores exist in large numbers in compost facilities, mushroom cultivation, barns, and rooms with technical air moistening. Farmer's lung disease, another form of hypersensitive pheumonitis, is one of the most common causes of S. rectivirgula, especially in eastern Canada. It has also been associated with a respiratory disease in horses known as heaves. PMID: 21511892 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
