Diazinon
Active
Description
Diazinon is a colorless, odorless oil and cholinesterase inhibitor. It is used as a pesticide, but also manifests apoptotic and antibiotic functions. In former times, diazinon was used in household and garden application to eradicate flies, fleas, and cockroaches. Currently, it is used to exterminate sucking and leaf eating insects in soil, on ornamental plants, fruit, and vegetables. Diazinon is toxic if it is inhaled, ingested, or absorbed through the skin. Symptoms of exposure to diazinon can lead to eye irritation, blurred vision, headache, dizziness, confusion, lassitude, convulsions, dyspnea, excessive salivation, sweating, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and unconsciousness. Diazinon is a suspected carcinogen and teratogen. It is dangerously toxic to aquatic wildlife and to the aquatic environment. Poisonous gases are produced when diazinon is heated.[PubChem:3017][http://pmep.cce.cornell.edu/profiles/extoxnet/carbaryl-dicrotophos/diazinon-ext.html] Source: Regenstrief LOINC
